Prefinished vs. Site-finished
One is through the site- finished method and the other is the pre-finished method.
There are multiple options available within each of these categories that I will elaborate on in the next segment. The specifics of your project; Whether it is a home or condo, above grade or below grade, your lifestyle, budget, and so on, will all have an impact on which flooring option is best for you.
Now, let’s start with the site-finished method where the unfinished flooring material is delivered to the home, installed, sanded, stained, and finished in the home.
Depending on the size of the project, this process can take several days to a week or more to complete. There will be some down time in between stain and finish coats where you cannot walk on the floor for several hours.
The other option is to purchase a pre-finished hardwood floor.
As the name implies, the stain and finish are applied in a factory controlled environment and delivered to the home ready to install.
No sanding, staining, or finishing is needed. The flooring is installed and can immediately be walked on.
Now that we’ve covered the 2 basic ways you can add wood flooring to your home, I would recommend you tune in to our next video segment where we continue the discussion on how to find the right hardwood flooring for your home.
